The car of the future is often described using terms like “fully-autonomous” and “all-electric,” but what if there’s another way? Maybe there will be more to the car of the future than the ability to drive itself without relying on fossil fuels.
Freelance designer Simon Grytten has created such a vehicle: the Audi Neo-Bauhaus Concept. It’s all the things one thinks of when picturing the future of mobility, plus it can carry your bicycle for you so you can switch transportation modes if stuck in traffic at the last mile.
Let’s face it, the number of personal automobiles on the roads is increasing, and the trajectory won’t have a downward curve any time soon. And while the engines are getting more powerful, traffic is getting tighter, so all that hair-raising performance won’t get you to your destination any faster. Advanced automotive technology might give you a fancy supercar, but it doesn’t address the issue of overpopulated cities and the disadvantage of congestion that comes with them.
What is performance? Is it having the most powerful car? Nowadays, having a Lamborghini won’t get you faster to work than a Fiat 500. Our environment has changed; cars are not welcome in cities anymore. Subways or bikes are the best for short trips. Therefore, we have to reinvent what performance means.
But Audi Neo-Bauhaus can help you escape traffic jams!
Tomorrow, to be performant, it won’t be about being fast, but rather having the fastest path. To do so, we have to create a vehicle that allows us to switch from different mobility systems. Audi Neo-Bauhaus concept is an autonomous car that commutes between cities and allows you to be dropped to a more performant mobility system when the car becomes obsolete. With the ability to carry your bike or skateboard and get out of the car in the middle of a traffic jam in full safety, you will now be faster than anyone else.
Since the Audi Neo-Bauhaus is self-driving, you can unload your bike and let the car drive itself to a parking space. It can even charge itself while parked, then come to pick you up when you’re ready to go.
The two-passenger cabin is more spacious than any other electric vehicle because the motors are in the wheels. This means it’s extra roomy since electric vehicles are already more spacious than internal combustion engine cars. There’s more room for storage, and the cabin is encased in panoramic glass for a super airy feel.
The digital displays on the dashboard are large for ease of use, and there’s a removable steering wheel just in case you feel like driving the old-fashioned way.
Another fun feature is the plug-n-play Bang & Olufsen speakers that come alive with ambient lighting actuated by the music tones.
Having a car that allows you to switch between mobility systems is the new high-performance vehicle that can truly offer you the fastest path to a destination!
