Stolen vehicle pursuit reaches 100 mph in Marshall County

Marshall County deputies said a pursuit that started with a stolen vehicle reached more than 100 mph and ended with two arrests. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office said the chase started around 4 p.m. Wednesday when a deputy saw a vehicle that had been stolen in California while patrolling Highway 330 near The Harvester Club.Deputies said the driver refused to pull over when the deputy attempted to pull him over, then made a U-turn on the highway and attempted to flee onto gravel roads. According to deputies, the chase ended in Story County on 320th Street when the driver lost control and entered the ditch. The driver, 26-year-old Uriel Ruelas, of Visalia, California, and the passenger, 24-year-old Ruben Magallenes, of Tulare, California, were both taken into custody.Deputies said approximately one pound of methamphetamine was found discarded in the ditch. A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle, which resulted in the seizure of approximately one more pound of methamphetamine.Ruelas is charged with second-degree theft, eluding, reckless driving, no driver’s license and failure to maintain control. Both Ruelas and Magallenes are charged with possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to deliver and failure to affix a drug tax stamp. Both were taken to the Marshall County Jail and are being held there.Ruelas also had outstanding warrants in the state of Nevada for multiple serious charges.Deputies said the pursuit covered approximately eight miles and reached speeds of 100 mph on Highway 330.
