Antioch lends support for regional driverless car micro transit plan

Antioch this week joined three other East Contra Costa County cities in throwing its support behind a preliminary plan to use driverless electric cars to shuttle passengers to public transportation and business hubs.

The City Council on Tuesday voted 4-1, with Tamisha Torres-Walker abstaining, to endorse a public-private partnership model that calls for Glydways Inc. to build a multimillion-dollar micro transit network in East Contra Costa. The planned system, to be privately financed, would complement bus and rail services in the region by 2030.
